Nasal Cautery
Nasal cautery is a simple procedure used to treat recurrent nosebleeds by sealing small blood vessels inside the nose.
It may be recommended when nosebleeds are frequent, persistent or difficult to control with simple measures such as nasal moisturising and pressure.
The affected area is identified and carefully treated with a cautery agent to seal the bleeding vessel. Mild tenderness, crusting can occur during healing, with saline or moisturising treatments often recommended afterwards.
Steroid Injections
Steroid injections can be used to reduce inflammation and swelling in selected ENT conditions when local treatment is appropriate.
Depending on the condition, steroid injections may be considered for persistent inflammation or specific ear, nose or sinus problems that have not responded adequately to other treatments.
The steroid is carefully administered to the appropriate area using a targeted technique. Recovery depends on the site and reason for treatment, with most patients experiencing minimal downtime.
Biopsy
An ENT Biopsy involves taking a small tissue sample for laboratory examination. It can help investigate an unusual lump, lesion, swelling or other area of concern.
A biopsy may be recommended when further investigation is needed to establish a diagnosis and determine the most appropriate treatment.
A small tissue sample is carefully removed from the affected area, usually using local or general anaesthesia depending on its location. Minor discomfort or bleeding may occur afterwards, with results generally reviewed at a follow-up appointment.
Allergy Testing
Allergy testing helps identify substances that may be contributing to nasal congestion, sneezing, runny nose or other allergic ENT symptoms
Testing may be recommended when allergies are suspected to be contributing to persistent nasal or sinus symptoms. Results can help guide an appropriate treatment and allergy-management plan.
Testing may involve skin-prick testing or other allergy investigations depending on the symptoms and clinical assessment. Allergy testing is generally quick, with patients able to return to normal activities afterwards.
Swabs
ENT swabs are used to collect samples from the nose, throat or ear to help identify infections or other causes of symptoms.
Swabs may be recommended when symptoms suggest a bacterial, viral or fungal infection and laboratory testing could help guide treatment.
A sterile swab is gently used to collect a sample from the affected area and sent for laboratory testing when required. The procedure is quick and generally requires no recovery time.
